Bhadrachalam sits on the banks of the Godavari and houses one of the most revered Rama temples in South India. The ride from Hanamkonda is one of the most complete one-day bike trips available from Warangal — highway stretches, forest corridors, a river crossing, and a historic temple. Here's everything you need.
Trip Basics
- Distance: ~230 km one way (460 km return)
- Ride time: 4.5–5 hours each way
- Best bike: Royal Enfield or Pulsar (long highway — scooter not recommended)
- Best time: October to March (avoid monsoon season June–September)
- Type: One-day trip or overnight stay
Route: Stop by Stop
Hanamkonda (Start)
Fuel up fully here. Depart by 6 AM to reach Bhadrachalam by mid-morning before the temple crowds build up.
Khammam — 110 km (1.5 hrs)
Good fuel stop and breakfast options. Several dhabas and hotels near the main road. Take NH163 to Khammam.
Kothagudem — 165 km (2.5 hrs)
The road enters forest territory here. Smooth but narrow in patches. Last major town before Bhadrachalam — fuel up again.
Bhadrachalam — 230 km (4.5 hrs)
The Godavari opens up as you enter town. Park near the ghat and walk to the temple. Allow 2–3 hours here.
What to See at Bhadrachalam
Sita Ramachandraswamy Temple
Built in the 17th century, this is considered one of the most sacred Rama shrines in India. The temple sits directly on the Godavari riverbank. The architecture is Dravidian style with elaborate gopurams. Rama Navami celebrations here draw hundreds of thousands of pilgrims.
Godavari Boat Ride
Take a 30-minute boat ride on the Godavari from the ghat below the temple. The river is wide and calm outside monsoon season. Highly recommended — the view of the temple from the water is unlike any other angle.
Parnasala — 40 km further
If you have extra time, ride 40 km further to Parnasala — the site where Sita was abducted according to the Ramayana. A quiet forest clearing with a small shrine. Very few tourists reach here.
Packing List
- Driving licence + Aadhaar (checkpoints on forest roads)
- 2L water per person minimum
- Light snacks for the 60 km forest stretch
- Offline Google Maps downloaded (signal weak near Kothagudem)
- Basic first aid kit
- Light jacket (early morning highway riding gets cold October–January)
- Cash — not all dhabas on the route take UPI
Overnight Option
Several budget guesthouses in Bhadrachalam town offer rooms for ₹500–1500/night. Staying overnight lets you attend the early morning puja at the temple (5:30 AM) which is a genuinely special experience — and ride back fresh in the morning rather than pushing a 460 km return in one day.
Planning this trip?
We recommend the Royal Enfield for Bhadrachalam. Book it now and we'll have it ready tomorrow morning.
